The Quiet Shift in Our Daily Files
Walk into any modern office and you'll still see the familiar icons: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. They've been the backbone of work for decades. But something is changing. The files we create today aren't just text documents or spreadsheets anymore. They're becoming something more alive—something that can think, update, and collaborate alongside us.

This is already happening in daily work. AI-generated content is moving from plain text to interactive pages. But there's been a catch: even if AI can generate these pages easily, editing, sharing, and keeping them updated has been tough for the average user. Sharing Made Simple: From Local File to Web Link
Another pain point with AI-generated HTML is sharing. If you made a page, how do you show it to others? For programmers, there's deployment, servers, domains—way too complex for a regular employee preparing a report.
WorkBuddy solves this by letting you publish your HTML directly to a web link. You can share it via a link, and colleagues can open it on their phones or in WeChat without downloading anything. They can even leave comments on specific parts of the page, just like in an online document.

WorkBuddy also added an AI-native review mode for smart Markdown. When a team writes weekly reports or project specs, AI suggestions appear as tracked changes, and the author can accept or reject them. Once the content is finalized, it can be converted to HTML for a more polished presentation.
So now there's a clear split: Markdown for collaborative writing and content upkeep, HTML for visual presentation and sharing. Both are editable, both are collaborative, and both can involve AI.
From Static Files to Living Workspaces
The real breakthrough, though, is the "light app" feature that lets HTML pages store and sync data. This turns a one-time visual report into a continuous tool.
I tested this with a bakery's inventory data. I put product names, SKUs, stock levels, and costs into a CSV. WorkBuddy generated a dashboard that highlighted items low on stock and let me filter by category. Because the underlying CSV stays connected, the dashboard isn't a one-off—it's a living dashboard that updates as I edit the CSV.
You could also make a personal energy tracker, a shared chore chart for couples, or a lunch picker based on nearby restaurants. The possibilities are endless.
A Real-World Example: Baking with AI
One official case study shows a bakery called Sunbei Bei using this system. They store monthly reports on warehousing, construction, and product costs in the library. When it's time for the next month's analysis, they call up the historical reports, and AI continues from where they left off, saving the new results back to the same folder.
This gives the library a role that goes beyond a traditional folder. It preserves both human work and the context AI needs for the next task. A generated page, data set, or document can be reused by individuals, teams, and AI alike.
The New Office Trio: Markdown, HTML, and CSV
So what does this mean for the classic Office trio? They're not going away. WorkBuddy still supports Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and even lets AI edit them through a feature called "human-AI co-writing." But now, it also embraces the formats that AI is more comfortable with.
We're seeing a new trio emerge: Markdown for writing, HTML for presentation, and CSV for structured data. These aren't replacements—they're additions. The office of the future will handle both kinds of files, old and new.
A Historical Perspective on File Formats
This shift is part of a longer history. In the 1980s, the rise of personal computers and software like Lotus 1-2-3 and WordPerfect defined how we worked. Later, Microsoft Office standardized the digital workplace. Now, AI is starting to redefine what a "file" is.
File formats aren't just technical details. They shape how we produce, modify, and share information. In the past, the participants were humans. Now, they include AI agents.
